With Russia’s recent military action against Ukraine, the United Kingdom visa application centre in Kyiv is closed. The Home Office has introduced temporary visa concessions for family members of British nationals who usually live in Ukraine. Non-British family members of British nationals living in Ukraine can now apply for a family migration visa for free. This applies to most of the usual eligible family members, such as spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner, child under 18, parent and adult relative. The applicants are required to contact UKVI first to get the confirmation of their eligibility for this concession, and to get details of the free application process. Family members of British nationals who usually live in Ukraine and need a UK visa can apply through the new temporary location in the Lemberg Centre in the city of Lviv to give their biometrics, where they can access 'walk-in' appointment. Alternatively they may apply through a VAC in Poland, Romania, Hungary and Moldova. UKVI aim to process family migration visa applications within 24 hours from when they have submitted their biometrics at the VAC. Unfortunately, Ukrainian nationals in Ukraine who aren't immediate family members of British nationals normally living in Ukraine, or where the British national is living in the UK, are currently unable to make visa applications through a VAC in Ukraine. They may however apply for a visa through a VAC in one of the nearby countries, if they are able to safely travel.
